TRAVEL ADVICE - Weather
The average day temperatures in the summer months vary between 32 ºC and 35 ºC
(90 - 95 °F), and often exceed 35 °C (95 °F). In the winter months between 23 ºC
and 24 ºC (71 - 74 °F) is common, with it rarely ever dropping below 22 ºC.
Evening temperatures are at their lowest during the winter months dropping to an
average of 15- 17 ºC. The sun shines approximately 50 weeks of the year.
Gran Canaria is a mountainous island where the trade winds prevail around all
year. This island deserves the nickname 'continent in miniature', as it holds a
wide variety of microclimates that go from the subtropical to the continental
climates. The north of the island has a
different climate, so if you're getting weather information relating to the
capital, Las Palmas, you'll find it's always 5C or 10C (approximately) cooler up
there. It also receives more rain and clouds than the south. The south coast
(Puerto Rico, Maspalomas, Playa del ingles etc) get the sunniest and hottest
weather throughout the Canaries!
